Steady bass

Steady bass is a technique in which the thumb plays a constant rhythm, while the fingers play a melody on the higher strings. The technique is used in several musical styles, e.g. Delta Blues (Robert Johnson, Son House). A nice advantage of this technique is that you can often play open strings as bass accompaniment (especially in the keys of E and A), which makes it easy to move the fingers around the fretboard.
